Director of Membership Growth & Engagement

Location: Hybrid or On-Site (New Mexico)

Travel: Approximately 20% statewide travel required

Reports To: President & CEO

Employment Type: Full-time

Compensation:

  • Base Salary: $65,000
  • Incentive Structure: Uncapped commission plan including performance-based bonuses; On-Target Earnings $95,000–$105,000+

About the Role

The New Mexico Chamber of Commerce (NMCC) is seeking a motivated and relationship-driven Director of Membership Growth & Engagement to lead our statewide membership growth strategy and ensure members receive consistent value throughout the year.

This is a high impact, externally facing role responsible for driving membership revenue through new sales, renewals, and strategic engagement. As a key member of a small, collaborative team, you will work directly with business leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders across New Mexico.

Key Responsibilities

Revenue Generation & Member Growth (50%)

  • Own and drive membership recruitment, upgrades, and renewals across sectors and regions.
  • Identify and close new business opportunities through outreach, referrals, Chamber events, and community partnerships.
  • Tailor membership value propositions to diverse industries.
  • Translate NMCC’s policy and legislative efforts into compelling value stories customized by sector or business need.
  • Maintain a strong sales pipeline in CRM and meet or exceed monthly and quarterly revenue targets.
  • Collaborate with leadership to refine pricing, tiering, and incentives that support growth goals.

Member Engagement & Retention (50%)

  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for new and renewing members.
  • Develop and execute year-round engagement plans that include onboarding, touchpoints, feedback loops, and recognition.
  • Write and manage personalized communications, including welcome letters, event invites, campaign updates, and renewal messaging.
  • Track engagement using CRM and surveys to identify satisfaction trends, retention risks, and upsell opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete member data and engagement history in CRM, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Contribute to membership reports, testimonials, and campaigns that highlight impact and drive visibility.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in sales, business development, or membership engagement.
  • Proven ability to meet revenue goals and manage a sales pipeline.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to clearly convey NMCC’s policy and legislative work as it relates to a member’s company or industry.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Experience with CRM tools (e.g., HubSpot, Salesforce) and digital communications platforms.
  • Demonstrated commitment to data stewardship, including maintaining accurate CRM records, safeguarding member information, and adhering to confidentiality standards.
  • Self-motivated with a professional, polished presence in person and online.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance.

Preferred Experience

  • Background in a chamber of commerce, membership association, or economic development organization.
  • Knowledge of New Mexico’s business sectors and policy landscape.
  • Marketing or communications experience supporting a business audience.

Work Environment & Travel

  • Hybrid or on-site role based in New Mexico.
  • Approximately 20% statewide travel required, including occasional evenings or early mornings for events, member visits, or meetings with policymakers.
